Multi-Process Welders

A multi-process welding machine covers MIG, TIG and stick (MMA) from a single power source, so you are not buying three machines to cover three jobs. It suits a workshop or home setup where the work varies from one day to the next, more than a dedicated line running one process all day.

Every multi-process welding machine below is in stock in Kempton Park and priced direct, ranging from R1,725 to R13,662. Entry-level units cover gasless MIG, MMA and lift-TIG in one compact package; the higher-amperage models add gas-shielded MIG and a higher duty cycle for heavier work.

We have built and repaired MIG, TIG and stick equipment in our own workshop since 2002, and we are an Air Products gas agent, so a multi-process welding machine, its argon and its consumables are sorted in the same place you bought it.

When a multi-process welding machine makes sense

If your work is genuinely mixed — MIG on a fabrication job, a stick repair on rusty or outdoor steel, an occasional TIG pass for finish — one multi-process machine covers all three without three separate power sources cluttering the workshop. If you run one process all day at high duty cycle, a dedicated machine in that process will usually outperform a combo unit at the same price.

What "multi-process" covers in this range

All four machines here run MIG or gasless MIG plus stick (MMA). Three of the four — DABU 225 Pulse MIG Welder, Pinnacle MIGARC 145, Pinnacle MIGARC 195 and PRIMIMIG 251C — add lift-TIG or scratch-lift TIG as a third process. None of the four run AC/DC TIG, which is what aluminium welding requires — for that, see our TIG welding machines, which include dedicated AC/DC units.

Amperage and duty cycle across the range

Output runs from 20A up to 250A depending on the model. The entry-level MIGARC 145 covers 20-120A MIG and a 25% duty cycle at 120A — enough for light and occasional work. The PRIMIMIG 251C runs up to 250A with a 60% duty cycle, suited to longer runs and thicker material. Match the machine to the thickest material you will realistically weld, not the thickest you can picture.

What you give up versus dedicated machines

A multi-process machine is a compromise by design. Switching processes usually means changing the torch or electrode holder and adjusting settings, not a one-button toggle. If the machine needs repair, every process it covers is out of action until it is fixed, unlike a dedicated single-process unit backed up by others. For most workshop and home use, the space and cost saved outweigh that trade-off.

Are multiprocess welders any good?
Yes, for the jobs they are built for. A multi-process machine will not match a dedicated single-process machine's fine control at the top end, and if it fails you lose every process at once rather than just one. For mixed workshop or home use, that trade-off is usually worth the space and cost saved.
Can a multi-process welding machine weld aluminium?
