MB501 Water-Cooled MIG Welding Torch – 4m

The MB501 (also known as BZ501) is Amalgum Welding Shop's water-cooled MIG welding torch. It's built for continuous, high-amperage welding where an air-cooled torch would overheat. It has a 4m cable and uses the M8 consumable range — the same thread as our air-cooled MB40.

Do I need a separate water cooler for this torch?

Yes. A water-cooled torch only works connected to a compatible water cooler and matching hose connectors. Confirm your cooler's connector type and coolant capacity before ordering this torch.

Why choose water-cooled over air-cooled?

Air-cooled torches, like our MB40, suit duty cycles up to around 50%. A water cooler actively pulls heat away from the torch, so the MB501 can run continuous production work at 60% duty cycle or higher without overheating.

What's included

The torch ships ready to connect to a compatible water cooler and MIG welder. It doesn't include the cooler itself, coolant, contact tips or a liner — stock consumables separately using our MIG contact tips (M8 thread) and gas nozzles.

MB501 water-cooled MIG torch FAQ

Is the MB501 the same as the MB40?

No. Both use M8 consumables, so contact tips and nozzles are shared. But the MB40 is air-cooled and the MB501 is water-cooled. Choose based on your duty cycle, not just amperage.

What coolant should I use?

Use a dedicated torch coolant, not plain water. Plain water alone doesn't protect against corrosion inside the lines and fittings the way a proper coolant does. Check your cooler manufacturer's recommended coolant type.

How do I know if my coolant flow is adequate?

Low coolant flow is a common cause of a water-cooled torch overheating despite the cooler running. Check for kinked hoses, a low reservoir level, or a worn pump if the torch runs hotter than expected.

Will MB15 or MB25 contact tips fit the MB501?

No. MB15 and MB25-style torches take M6 thread. The MB501 takes M8, the same as our MB40. Check our MIG contact tips listing for both threads before ordering.
