MIG Welding Torches

Choosing a mig welding torch comes down to duty rating and cable length: a lighter MB15 for occasional workshop use, or a heavier MB36, MB40 or water-cooled MB501 for continuous, higher-amperage production work. Every mig welding torch below is Binzel-style, so replacement consumables are easy to find rather than locked to one supplier.

✓ Since 2002 ✓ In-house torch workshop ✓ Air Products gas agent ✓ Direct-to-consumer pricing

Six mig welding torches are in stock in Kempton Park and priced direct, from R850 for the MB15 4m air-cooled torch up to R2,800 for the MB501 water-cooled 4m torch. An MB25 aluminium-specific torch with a Teflon liner is also available for aluminium MIG work, where a standard steel liner would shred the softer wire.

We have built and repaired MIG torches in our own workshop since 2002, so if your existing torch has failed or you are upgrading to a higher-duty machine, bring it in or send us a photo and we will match the mig welding torch to your setup.

MB15, MB25, MB36, MB40 or MB501 — which duty rating?

MB15 is the lightest torch in this range, suited to occasional workshop and DIY use on lower-amperage machines. MB25 and MB36 step up for regular workshop use at moderate amperage. MB40 handles heavier, higher-duty-cycle work, and the water-cooled MB501 is built for continuous high-amperage production welding where an air-cooled torch would overheat. Match the torch to your machine's amperage, not the other way around.

Air-cooled or water-cooled?

Air-cooled torches (MB15 through MB40 in this range) are simpler, lighter and need no cooling unit, and cover the large majority of workshop and site welding. Water-cooled torches, like the MB501, run cooler at sustained high amperage and are the right choice for continuous production work, but need a water-cooled machine and cooling unit to run — not a drop-in upgrade for an air-cooled machine.

Standard torch, or aluminium-specific?

The MB25 aluminium torch in this range uses a Teflon liner instead of the standard steel liner, since aluminium wire is soft and a steel liner will shred it or cause feeding problems. If aluminium MIG welding is anywhere in your work, the aluminium-specific torch and liner combination is worth the difference over trying to run aluminium wire through a standard steel-lined torch.

What's included, and what wears out

Each torch here is a complete assembly — swan neck, handle, cable and liner — ready to connect to your machine's euro connector. The wearing parts (contact tip, gas nozzle, diffuser, liner) are consumables, not covered by buying a new torch body, and are stocked separately in our MIG torch consumables range once yours start to wear.

Why buy your mig welding torch here

We have built and repaired MIG torches in our own Kempton Park workshop since 2002. Every torch here is sold and priced direct, in stock locally, with no reseller markup added on top — and if it needs a repair or a consumable swap later, the people who sold it to you are the people who fix it.

Common questions

What are the two main types of MIG torches available?
The two main types are air-cooled and water-cooled. Air-cooled torches are simpler and lighter, suited to occasional and moderate-duty work. Water-cooled torches run cooler at sustained high amperage and are built for continuous production welding, but need a water-cooled machine and cooling unit to operate.
What is the best MIG welder torch?
There's no single best torch, the right choice depends on your machine's amperage and how continuously you weld. An MB15 or MB25 suits occasional workshop use; an MB36 or MB40 suits regular higher-amperage work; a water-cooled MB501 suits continuous production welding.
Can I MIG weld without gas?
Yes, with gasless (flux-cored) wire instead of solid wire and shielding gas. The flux core creates its own shielding as it burns, so no gas bottle is needed, though it produces more spatter and smoke than gas-shielded MIG.
How does a MIG torch work?
A MIG torch feeds a continuous wire electrode through a liner to a contact tip, which energises the wire as it exits. Shielding gas flows through the diffuser and nozzle around the wire to protect the weld pool from air, while the trigger controls wire feed and power together.
Can I use any torch on any MIG machine?
Not directly. Torches connect via a euro connector, which is fairly standard, but the torch's duty rating needs to match or exceed your machine's amperage, and the consumables (tip, liner, nozzle) are family-specific. Check compatibility before assuming a torch will simply bolt on.
Why would I need an aluminium-specific MIG torch?
Aluminium wire is soft, and a standard steel torch liner tends to shred it or cause feeding problems. An aluminium-specific torch uses a Teflon liner instead, which is smoother on the softer wire and gives more reliable feeding when welding aluminium.
